S4 energy | Field Technician

Field Technician

Objective

As an Electrical & Power Engineer, you will deliver electrical and power system work packages across multiple Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. You will be responsible for the design, integration, and optimisation of power and electrical systems — including grid interfaces — ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations, while supporting the wider project team with technical expertise and guidance.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Electrical & Power Design and Integration: Own the full electrical and power systems design for BESS and Balance of Plant (BoP), including load sizing, grounding, SCADA, auxiliary systems, and grid interfaces.
  • Technical Leadership & Oversight:
    • Provide technical leadership to EPC contractors and internal teams across all project stages, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
    • Coordinate key power engineering activities, including load flow studies, protection schemes, fault level analysis, and grid interconnection.
  • System Optimisation: Improve BESS system performance, efficiency, and lifecycle costs using best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Suppliers, Contractors & Compliance:
    • Ensure suppliers and contractors meet all electrical and power system specifications and design intent.
    • Maintain compliance with applicable local and international electrical codes and prepare required technical documentation.
  • Innovation & Improvement: Identify and apply innovative technologies and methods to enhance project scalability and engineering execution.

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required by project locations.

Coordination & Team Leadership

  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, controls, and software teams to deliver fully integrated solutions.
  • Support Project Engineers, Construction Managers, and PECM teams on BESS and power-system-related scope.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate technical risks and bottlenecks.

Communication

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal stakeholders and contractors.
  • Provide clear updates on scope, planning, and technical issues.
  • Offer lessons learned to improve future project design and execution.

Authority

  • Make technical decisions related to electrical systems and design.
  • Approve specifications, designs, and component selections related to BESS electrical scope.
  • Recommend contractors/suppliers based on technical fit and performance.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Power Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ experience in BESS, wind, or PV projects, with a strong focus on grid-connected assets.
  • 5+ years’ experience in HV electrical and power systems engineering.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Dutch and/or German grid codes, permitting, and technical documentation is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and power system software (e.g. PSS/E, ETAP).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and data/visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau) is an advantage.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Strong communicator.
  • Confident technical leader who listens actively to stakeholders.
  • Proactive and highly motivated team player.
  • Committed to safety, reliability, and sustainable outcomes.
  • Demonstrates ownership and initiative in delivering results.

Performance Criteria

  • Timely and quality delivery of electrical work packages.
  • Compliance with all applicable standards and safety regulations.
  • Effective team coordination and communication.
  • Successful supplier/contractor oversight and risk mitigation.
  • Evidence of system optimisation and innovation in project outcomes.
